Mariposas de Guayaba: Fried Guava Wontons
And for Dessert
Since I made Cuban Fried Rice, I figured I'd make Cuban Wontons for dessert. This is so simple, it's silly to show the steps, but here they are:
Wonton Wrappers
Guava Paste
Oil for frying
Lay out your wonton wrappers individually and place a small piece of guava paste in the center. Wet the edges of the wontons all around; fold over into triangles pressing down to seal. Heat oil in a skillet and fry your wontons until golden. That's it, and they go really fast. Everyone loves this.

OMG I LOVE U LOL. if you would've cooked me that delicious Cuban fried rice you made (common ham steak, smoked pork chops, eggs and shrimp MmmmMmmmmmm que rico) and topped it off with this I'd be in food comma heaven for awhile lol.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing my grandma makes something like this too lol. she calls it "Frituritas de Guayaba Con Queso" she stuffs it with Guava and cream cheese :)

you can make tiny empanadillas with the wonton wrappers too, like stuff them with Picadillo and deep-fry real good, the picadillo one's are real good also using dumpling wrappers and deep-frying it :)
And just cuz we are on the topic of asian themed cooking you should check out my grandmas "Rabo Encendido Estilo Chino Cubano"

She does the same with Chicken it's like a Cuban style "Soy Sauce Chicken" ha ha.
I'll take a look. Thanks for the suggestions Nathan.
ReplyDeleteI love making these! You get so many wrappers it's a nice way to use them up! I usually add cream cheese to the guava paste when I make mine. I also used the shredded coconut in syrup too. They were good but a little messy!
ReplyDeleteI like the guava with the cream cheese also but my daughter can't have dairy, so I tend to skip the cheese. No one seemed to mind the lack of it though. The wonton on it's own is yummy!
ReplyDeleteMmm, Mmm good!
ReplyDeleteHoney, you can go "china" on me anytime! Woof!!! XOXOXOX
